ACT 1-The action begins in the Happy, Happy
town of Hamelin on the day of the annual mayoral elections.
"Hamelin" For the tenth consecutive year Mayor Feldenberg defeats
Zirconia Grimm. Despite the townfolks insistence that she didn't win
because she's just mean, Zirconia insists her on going failure at the
polls is due to her gender. She decides to prove to Hamelin how bad life
would be if it wasn't for women. Zirconia tells Rupert to warn the mayor
to never underestimate a woman.
Rupert passes the message to the mayors daughter Harmony, with whom he is secretly in love, and asks her to give him music lessons. Back at the Clunk's house, behind the town laundry, Mrs. Clunk urges Rupert to ask for a raise "As the Wheel Spins Round" and Atticus, Rupert's faithful talking cat tries to convince him to ask Harmony to the dance. "" Meanwhile Zirconia's Assistant, Tuppence, and her two Henchmen , Hilbert and Herbert, sneak into Hamelin to carry out Zirconia's orders as they argue Zirconia enters and clarifies the plans are to ruin things that are traditionally woman's work. "Where Would We Be Without Women" The next morning, thanks to Zirconia's schemes, everything seems to go wrong in Hamelin. The bread rises to high, the butter tastes sweet, the cheese is full of holes and all the washing is pink. Undaunted the mayor congratulates the townsfolk on their new inventions and calls for a Happy Hamelin Holiday. Harmony and Rupert meet for their first music lesson, both having unspoken feelings for the other. "Perfect Harmony" Zirconia discovers the failure of her plans and hatches another scheme, she enlists the help of a family of rats and sends them to Hamelin to destroy the town. "I hate Being Happy" Harmony and Rupert are just finishing their lesson as the rats arrive. Harmony rushes back to town while Atticus takes Rupert deeper into the woods. Atticus tells Rupert of his heritage and his role as keeper of the magic. Atticus gives Rupert the magic pipe of his ancestors and convinces him to become the piper, the only one who can save Hamelin from the rats."Here Upon The Ground" Back in Hamelin the rats have taken over, terrorizing the population and destroying the town. ACT 2-The townsfolk are angry and Mayor
Feldenberg has no answers for the problem of the rats, all of a sudden,
the Piper magically appears, his music drives the rats into a frenzied
dance and they promptly disappear."The Piper" Mayor Feldenberg
call a special Happy, Hamelin Holiday but the piper as disappeared as
quickly as he arrived. A festival is planned for the following day, with
the Piper as the guest of honor. Atticus senses a problem and he and
Rupert return to the woods to check on the pipe.
Zirconia's plans have once again been thwarted. She learns the identity of the piper and aquires the magic pipe. Zirconia sets her most evil plan in motion. She will use the pipe to rid Hamelin of it's children and kidnap Harmony to keep Rupert quiet "Victory" The pipe is missing, while Rupert searches Harmony arrives and learns of his secret identity. Rupert finally works up the courage to ask her to the dance and she agrees. Rupert and Atticus leave to face Zirconia and retrieve the pipe. Harmony left alone in the woods admits her feelings for Rupert "On a Night Like This" before being Kidnapped by Zirconia. At Zirconia's lair, Rupert and Atticus are captured. Zirconia leaves with Harmony and Tuppence whilst Hilbert and Herbert guard Rupert and Atticus. They trick the henchmen into letting them go. While the town prepares for the "Piper" festival, Zirconia prepares her evil scheme. Harmony convinces Tuppence to double cross Zirconia and they plan to save the children. At the festival, Tuppence arrives, dressed as the piper and leads the children away. They take the children to an old gold mine, run by Beck, and tell him Zirconia sent them."When Will we Ever get Home" Zirconia, having discovered the plan sells the children to the mine owner and they are locked into the mine as cheap labor. "Pen in Hand" Rupert and Atticus arrive to save the day and as Atticus distracts Beck "There are No Children Here" Rupert sneaks them all to safety. As he has now lost his workforce Beck makes Zirconia, Herbert and Hilbert stay to work the mine. Back in Hamelin, the townsfolk, having searched all day and night finally rest. The children arrive home. Rupert and Harmony finally admit their love and the children's happiness and laughter brings the parents out for a happy reunion. The Piper's True identity is revealed, both Rupert and Tuppence are considered heroes and Hamelin is once again the happiest city in the world |
